Gallery Registrar





Our client, a leading contemporary art gallery, is seeking a Gallery Registrar to join their team in Hong Kong.


Responsibilities include:


Artwork Shipping


  • Co-ordinate transport of new artworks from artists’ studios or London Galleries to Hong Kong

  • Oversee, carry out and instruct condition reporting for artworks

  • Ensure works are insured

  • Check and confirm packing and casing requirements

  • Support UK registrars with upcoming exhibitions and loans out to and from Hong Kong

  • Administer and track the movement of all artworks in and out of the HK Gallery by third party agents

  • Coordinate and oversee third party agents carrying out technical duties within the HK Gallery or at third party premises

  • Ensure all artwork movements and condition of Hong Kong stock items are kept up to date on IT system

Client


  • Arrange safe delivery of artworks in good time

  • Work with Client Services, Technical department and third party fine art agents to arrange the installation of artworks at clients’ premises

  • Ensure accurate and informed instruction is given to third party fine art agents and clients with regard to handling, installation, care and maintenance of artworks

  • Adhere to all Hong Kong S.A.R. Customs requirements on shipment of all artworks

  • Obtain all relevant documentation for movements of artworks once collected

  • Provide Accounts department with relevant customs documents for processing

Qualifications/Requirements:


  • Artwork shipping experience and understanding of tax regulations for shipping in and out of China and Hong Kong

  • Languages: fluent English and Cantonese. In addition: Mandarin is an advantage

  • Skilled communicator

  • Understanding of art work condition checking process

  • Knowledge of crating and art work handling issues related to the international movement of art work

  • Related work experience in the art industry ideally in a contemporary art gallery or auction house

  • Discrete and professional attitude

  • Well-organized, self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects and exhibitions under tight deadlines

  • Valid permit to work in Hong Kong
