MEDICAL SUPPLY TECHNICIAN job - Department of Veterans Affairs - Augusta, ME





This position is located in the Sterile Processing Services (SPS) program under Patient Care Services at the VA Maine Healthcare System in Augusta, ME.

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Cleans and decontaminates reusable medical instruments and equipment;

Removes gross contamination from all surfaces of reusable medical equipment (RME) including internal parts;

Operates equipment including the ultrasonic cleaners, washer decontaminators, endoscope processing units and cart washer;

Assembles trays, packages or wraps, and sterilizes a variety of instruments and instrument sets using steam, vaporized hydrogen peroxide and ethylene oxide (EtO) modalities;

Identifies the appropriate sterilization parameters required for sterilization of instruments;

Processes biological monitoring tests and Bowie Dick process indicators, interprets results and records results accordingly;

Provides the Operating Room with medical surgical instruments and equipment stocked on case carts;

Stocks, rotates and maintains supply levels in the SPS inventory; and

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 6:00pm, call coverage rotates for off tour hours, weekends and holidays.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
