[Full-time] Advanced Materials Researcher at Boeing

Job Description

The Advanced Materials Researcher reports to Vice President of Boeing Research & Technology China (BR&T-C) and is responsible for leading materials related research activities in Boeing Research & Technology China. This position will support the Advanced Materials Program Lead of BR&T-C in developing and executing materials research strategies in areas including metal alloys, polymer and sustainable materials, and managing external research providers. This position will also act as a liaison between research collaborators in China and Boeing materials R&D teams in the USA. Candidate should have broad knowledge of materials research in China and good network with key research providers. When needed, this position will also provide technical support to manufacturing activities conducted by Boeing or Boeing's suppliers in China. Occasional travel is required.

Specific Responsibilities include:

1. Work with Advanced Materials Program Lead of BR&TC on development of research strategy and corresponding research portfolio.

2. Identify unique research capabilities in China, and initiate new projects, through developing collaborative partnership with research providers, that aligns with BR&T-C research strategy.

3. Manage R&D projects to develop innovative and indigenous technologies that are mutually beneficial to Boeing and China.

4. Provide solutions to technical issues related to use of advanced materials and processes in the pursuit of business opportunities.

5. Support Boeing or supplier activities or manufacturing issues as needed.

6. Manage research providers and review project progress on regular basis to ensure projects meeting schedule, budget and technical objectives.

7. Develop technical alliances with Boeing US materials research community to ensure alignment with Boeing's business needs and maximize Boeing research investment value.

8. Become a catalyst for innovation and continuous improvement initiatives in daily research activities.

9. And other duties and responsibilities as required by management.

This requisition is for an international, locally hired position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country where the position is located. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not on Boeing US-based payroll.

Qualifications

Competencies:
Candidate must have strong responsibility and independent working capability to achieve business goals. In addition, candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and inter-personal skills and ability in order to forge strong working relationships with both internal and external partners and stakeholders. Ability to define, initiate and manage research projects to achieve desired outcomes, on time and within budget is required.

Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills in both Chinese and English.

Extensive R&D experience in development of advanced materials in an industrial environment is a plus.

The candidate should have experience and knowledge of materials and processes used for aerospace application.

Education:
Candidates must have an advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Materials Science, Chemistry or Engineering. Minimum of five years relative work experience is preferred.

Materials Manager Job (Wuxi, JiangSu, China)

1. Develop a long-term planning approach for the factories covering simplification and standardization of inventory management, lean / cycle time reduction, shop floor planning, materials management and Sales & Operations Planning.
