ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS

Office of Admissions

Full-Time, 12 Month, Salaried, Administrative Staff Appointment


Reporting to the Director of International Admissions, the Associate Director of Admissions will work closely with several admissions counselors responsible for international recruitment. A highly visible representative of the College, the Associate Director of Admissions has a deep appreciation for a residential liberal arts college experience and a strong personal commitment to Colby’s core values.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Travel to international secondary schools, partnership programs, community-based organizations, college fairs and off-campus events

  • Implement a comprehensive recruitment and marketing plan for international students

  • Review applications for first-year and transfer admissions for an assigned geographic region

  • Conduct evaluative interviews for prospective students

  • Maintain relationships with prospective students and other key constituencies

  • Lead group information sessions and service workshops

  • Participate in professional organizations focused on international students

  • Develop supportive partnerships with offices across campus

  • Work collaboratively to create international admissions communications and marketing materials including print publications, web, email, electronic newsletters, social media, and multimedia

  • Lead significant outreach and recruitment efforts; Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in international admissions or related areas preferred

  • Familiarity with international educational systems and selective college admissions

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

  • Appreciation of the value of a liberal arts education and of diverse cultures

  • Strong, self-motivated work ethic and a competitive spirit

  • Highly organized, attentive to detail, dedicated to the office and College

  • Proven ability to work with a wide variety of people, high energy, creative initiative, flexibility and a sense of humor are essential

  • Ability and confidence to exercise discretion while working independently, as well as the commitment to working as part of a team, are expected

  • A valid driver’s license, passport, and a willingness to frequently travel by air required

  • Previous work experience with Slate preferred

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Position reports to the Director of International Admissions and will have direct contact with the Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, Associate Dean and Director of Financial Aid, Associate Dean of Students and International Student Advisor. This position has significant interactions with faculty and staff, students, alumni and other constituencies.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT : Several weeks of domestic and international travel and frequent evening and weekend work is required throughout the year. Occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) may be necessary.
