Colby invites applicants to apply for the position of: Assistant Men†s and Women†s Swimming Coach AthleticsPart-Time, 5-Month, Exempt, Salaried, Administrative Staff AppointmentThe Colby College Department of Athletics seeks an assistant men†s and women†s swimming coach, beginning October 26, 2015 and ending March 26, 2016. The Assistant Men†s and Women†s Swimming Coach responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all duties involved in running a competitive Division III swimming program. Colby is a NCAA Division III institution and is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist with day-to-day operations of the men†s and women†s swimming program
•On-deck coaching
•Recruit and retain talented athletes successfully
•Scout opponents
•Prepare film breakdown and analysis
•Help organize and implement practices
•Plan and prepare for meets
•Perform pre-meet setup
•Contribute to strength and conditioning program
•Build relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone and one-on-one meetings
•Research academic and athletic credentials
•Organize and implement overnight visits
•Understand NCAA rules, compliance and laws
•Provide support and encouragement to student athletes
•Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes
•Monitor academic progress of athletes
•Serve as an effective role-model for college-age students
•Provide effective communication to Head Coach and other Assistant Coaches
•Collaborate effectively with other athletic department team members
•Serve as a coordinator of team travel
•Coordinate and plan team events and special projects related to the teams
•Perform additional duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor†s degree required
•Previous experience coaching and or/playing college level men†s soccer is highly desirable
•Committed to the values of a liberal arts education
•Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering
•Must be organized, take initiative, and utilize strong time management skills
•Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
•Valid driver†s license and good driving record required
•Ability to travel for team practices, competition and scouting in and out of state
•Strong positive communication and interpersonal skills with all levels
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Ability to excel as a member of a culturally diverse community KEY RELATIONSHIPS: This position has significant interaction with high school and college student athletes and their families, as well as coaches and administrators. PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT: Operates in pool area and training room environments. General open office and campus environment. Position involves both sitting, movement, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations.
