Registered Clinical Dietitian - Diabetes Program (Per Diem - Varied Shift) - Sutter Health - San Francisco, CA

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is San Francisco East Bay's largest private, not-for-profit medical center with a total of 1,082 licensed beds. This position provides outpatient Diabetes self-management education for individuals and group classes according to the ADA National Standards. This position is responsible for development and instruction of individualized meal plans that promote treatment goals that include glucose and lipid normalization, weight loss and hypertension control. This position also performs nutritional assessment of Diabetes Center outpatients in a manner that considers medical history, mental and physical state, and religious and cultural practices. Provides diabetes nutrition counseling that is consistent with patient and treatment goals, and is appropriate to an individuals learning style.

Communicates significant findings and care plan to other diabetes team members, hospital staff, and primary care physicians. Communicates in a proactive manner with physicians regarding patient needs in order to optimize diabetes management and promote established clinical standards of care. Develops and collaborates with other diabetes management team members in the development of patient education materials, care maps, care algorithms, and lesson plans for individuals and groups. Uses critical thinking to develop and continually improve processes, program offerings, and clinical practice. Provides group instruction in nutritional planning and diabetes self-management skills. Uses individual strengths to enhance overall performance of the diabetes team. Provides clinical expertise to hospital dietary and nursing staff and physicians in current nutritional guidelines and recommendations regarding diabetes management on an as-needed-basis or through formal professional education programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor of Science in Nutrition required. Dietetic Internship required. Minimum 3 years in Diabetes Education. Current Registered Dietitian License required. Current Diabetes Education Certification required or recent experience in Diabetes Education, ongoing continuing education in diabetes and working toward CDE Certification. Flexible/works well with people. Spanish or Chinese speaking desirable. Insulin Pump Training experience desirable.

Ability to organize to maximum number of patients. Work effectively and positively with other employees and patients. Maintains commitment to professional growth by participating in educational opportunities and/or professional organizations. Has excellent customer service skills. Demonstrates commitment to the philosophy and values of Alta Bates Medical Center.

- Plan, implement and drive all aspects of clinical studies in compliance with GCP, (Good Clinical Practice,) the RMP, (Research Management Procedure,) Work Instructions, Corporate Policies, Guidelines and internal Standards.
