We’re looking for a high-energy and passionate Senior Program Manager with strong application and middleware development background to work with Chinese customers and partners, helping them adopt Microsoft’s Cloud platforms and build winning solutions.
“Cloud” is a fundamental transformation that will have a profound impact on most aspects of the IT industry. Cloud technologies will also impact China in many ways, as yet known and unknown. Due to a variety of reasons such as regulatory requirements, customer preferences and market dynamics, Cloud requirements in China have some unique characteristics. As such, bringing Microsoft’s Cloud platform to China will require local knowledge and execution, along with strong partnership with product BGs.

Microsoft Server and Tools Business China (STBC) is an R&D organization with a mission to enable STB to win globally as well as locally in the China market. Established in 2005 under the overall umbrella of the Microsoft Asia-Pacific Research & Development (ARD) group, STBC has contributed to the development of core cloud platform products such as Windows Azure, Azure fabric, Windows Server, SQL Server/SQL Azure, Visual Studio, .Net, Systems Center, HPC Server, Small Business Server and others. STB has also established a strong partnership with China SMSG to contribute to the success of STB business in China.

To address the unique opportunity offered by the Cloud transformation in China and align STB’s “Cloud Optimized Every Business” strategy, STBC established China Cloud Innovation Center (CCIC). CCIC has worked in partnership with China SMSG as well as our global product groups to bring our Cloud offerings to the China market and to accelerate MS cloud platform/technology adoption. CCIC focuses on building design wins, reference architectures and case studies for Microsoft’s Cloud platform in China, understanding the specific/unique scenarios, requirements in the China market, and developing China’s Cloud solution ecosystem.

We need highly capable people in China to help fulfill this mission in this fast paced, growing market.

Responsibilities:
- Be a senior technical resource for Private and Public Cloud deployments in China
- Coordinate across Microsoft Sales, Marketing, and R&D
- Aid in architecting and deploying Cloud solutions in China
- Work directly with customers and partners to ensure smooth deployments and highly satisfied customers for Microsoft’s Private and Public cloud solutions
- Identify product and feature scenarios, feedbacks, enhancements across STB Cloud platform products such as Application Fabric, SQL Server, Windows Server…etc.

Requirements:
- Strong knowledge and experience of Microsoft’s STB products (Azure, Windows Server, SQL Server…etc.)
- Deep knowledge of application development platform and technologies, including VS, Biztalk, middleware, WF, WCF…etc., IIS, Sharepoint(MOSS)
- Strong application/system architectural experience
- Understanding of Virtualization, Systems Management, Private / Public Cloud technologies including all layers of the Cloud stack (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) a PLUS
- Must be able to distill complex requirements into actionable feedback to key stakeholders
- Excellent communication, project management skills
- Experienced in working with customers and partners in the China market.
- Fluent in Mandarin and English

The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, passionate about customer engagement, and have a track record of driving projects with multiple stakeholders to success. 7+ previous experience in program Management, consulting services, IT operations or marketing in the IT industry will be preferred.

Cloud Computing Research Software Development Engineer
Location: Shanghai

MSRA is working closely with STB (Server and Tools Business/China)/China on customer-driven research projects in the Cloud/Azure space. Those projects are derived from key customers of STB/C (Server and Tools Business/China), typically involving the processing and management of large-scale data, and will strategically leveraging both Microsoft’s core assets as well as open source components.

This position is in Shanghai Zi Zhu Campus, co-locating with STB/C, but may require travel to the Beijing campus. The candidate will directly report Cloud Computing Principle Researcher of MSRA.

Job Qualifications:
• A MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, ideally in system/distributed system fields
• Demonstrated capability in building large-scale distributed systems
• Core attributes of a research mindset: curious, passionate and eager to learn
• Core attributes of a system research mindset: pragmatic and elegant problem solving skills, love to build systems
• Strong written and communication skills; adept in cross-team collaboration
• 1 or 2 years of industrial experience desired, but not a core requirements

Job Requirements:
Work with researchers in System Group of MSRA, interns and STB/C colleagues; ability to manage, drive and execute multiple parallel projects across multiple virtual teams; ability to directly communicate with end customers.

Desirable Skills:
1. Experience with research projects a plus.
2. Experience with OS internals, compilers, Python, .NET, Java and distributed system
3. Familiarity with Hadoop a strong plus

Cloud technologies are having a profound impact on China IT industry in many ways. Due to a variety of reasons such as regulatory requirements, customer preferences and market dynamics, Cloud requirements and industry adoptions in China have some unique characteristics. With various established domestic service providers and key multinational cloud companies establishing and running cloud implementation and services in China, one of focus areas for China government is to establish a clear set of defined standards to guide the vibrant China cloud market to its future. As such, bringing Microsoft’s Cloud platform to China will require close collaboration with China standard groups, along with strong partnership with product BGs.

As a member of CCIC IST team, you are part of the team working with the DPE Interoperability team on interoperability and standards engagements that are of strategic importance in relationship to Microsoft’s Cloud platform technology in the China market. The interoperability and standards engagements cover a wide variety of Microsoft Cloud technologies, ranging from private cloud solution using Hyper-V, System Center, VDI to public cloud solution based on Windows Azure Platform. The role will work closely with China National Standard Official office and related China standards working groups to understand their scenarios and requirements and to help ensure that any China interoperability testing and local standards are compatible with Microsoft’s Cloud platform. You act as a key bridge between China Cloud interoperability and standards activities and the DPE Interoperability team and to product groups to bring feedback to influence/shape product improvement and roadmap. The team will also be responsible of building and maintaining necessary artifacts to connect with various stakeholders with actionable insight and guidance.

The individual who will be successful in this role will work with clarity and creditability and leadership across a wide range of stakeholders. MS Software development experience and product delivery are critical factors for the individual in this role due to close integration with product groups in related standard projects. It is essential that the candidate have solid understanding of Microsoft technologies and passionate to learn new technologies (Microsoft and external) to keep up the new standards in development and to spot issues in advance of potential product problems in China. This individual should also have strong verbal and written communication skill in China and English and be able to work effectively across organizational and geographic boundaries within Microsoft as well as externally. Solid knowledge and understanding of the process, organization, and implementation issues associate with standardization in China is a plus.
