We are looking for a talented Research & Development Chef that will develop new and exciting menu items for today’s top restaurant chains.

Position Summary:
The Executive R&D Chef role will require a complex set of skills and endless supply of energy and wit. First and foremost, a CSSI R&D chef is a culinary selling chef; positioning dishes, food, and services in the best light for a multitude of clients. The newly hired R&D chef will travel to the United States CSSI headquarters in Chicago, IL for a multi-week training process before starting his or her duties in our brand new Shanghai, China office.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
· Culinary R&D:
o Manage the culinary aspects of project development that include conceptualization, design, creation and evaluation of new food concepts/products for targeted markets or customers and final product specifications
o Development of on trend flavor profiles relevant to the demographic/audience
o Test, recommend and Incorporate new methods or ingredients into new/existing products
o Development of recipes from a flavor, cost and nutritional perspective
o Have an understanding of restaurant operations, manufacturing, distribution, food safety, corporate strategy and profitability
o Keep abreast of culinary, consumer and restaurant trends, new processes, food products and applications
o Maintaining affiliations with culinary institutes, restaurants and associations


· Sales Management:
o Maintain ongoing consultative service to ensure client satisfaction with key accounts, while also developing new prospects
o Develop strong relationships within existing accounts
o Provide regular reporting of activities including forecasts and plans to CSSI headquarters


Minimum Education/Experience Required:
· Must live in Shanghai, China
· Capable of fluently speaking and writing in Mandarin and English
· Culinary degree required with advanced work in culinary arts
· Bachelor’s degree preferred
· Minimum 5 years progressive culinary experience
· Experience with new concept development, menu and recipe development, food presentation, recipe writing and culinary selling that result in the achievement of sales business objectives
· R&D experience in the foodservice industry, specifically with chain restaurants
· Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as presentation skills
· Outgoing, sales oriented personality
· Focus on American and traditional Chinese cuisine a plus
· Pastry and baking experience a plus


Reporting Relationships:
· This position will report directly to the Director of Culinary R&D and International Operations


Working Conditions:
· Office, research kitchens, labs and manufacturing plants
· Travel up to 50%
· Ability to lift up to 20 kilos
