ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF PROSPECT RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

Office of College and Student Advancement

Full-Time, 12-Month, Exempt, Salaried, Administrative Staff Appointment


Working closely with the Director of Advancement Strategy and Analysis and the Assistant Director of Prospect Research and Development, the Associate Director of Prospect Research and Analysis will oversee and implement strategic prospect research initiatives within the division of College and Student Advancement at Colby College. The Associate Director will help identify key areas for analysis to help move prospects through the major gifts pipeline and assist in the development of research policies and procedures. A knowledge of data analytics, predictive modeling, and data mining is desired, as this position will provide critical support in these areas. The Associate Director will assist with principal prospect research profiles and provide in-depth gift capacity analysis for the President and senior staff as needed.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Evaluate current processes; develop and implement updated and expanded policies and procedures

  • Train staff in new procedures and provide periodic refresher trainings and onboarding support

  • Foster partnership with major gifts team

  • Host meetings to provide strategic insight for prospect pipeline and portfolio management

  • Assist in analyzing portfolios and prospect pool

  • Provide data-driven strategies to move prospects

  • Analyze database and identify new and refreshed prospects, evaluate and provide capacity using online databases and industry best practices

  • Provide accurate and capacity driven research for the President’s office and senior staff

  • Manage student workers and temporary help as needed

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • 5-7 years of prospect research experience in higher education, or comparable environment

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or comparable relational database; skilled in SQL a plus

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word) and ability to learn new programs and software

  • Working knowledge of statistical programming (R, Python, etc.), and statistical analysis a plus

  • Experience with project management, policies and procedures, and staff training

  • Ability to effectively use available databases and public information to analyze complex financial information

  • Commitment to confidentiality and understanding of sensitive material

  • Strong written and oral communication

  • Proven ability to synthesize information in a concise and professional manner

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across campus

  • Attention to detail and ability to understand and communicate complex information

  • Ability to prioritize work and provide accurate information under tight deadlines

  • Innovative and flexible with an interest in process improvement

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and growth within the field

  • Proven competence in advanced skill sets as outlined in the APRA Body of Knowledge

  • Supervisory experience helpful

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: This position has significant interaction with faculty, staff, peers, vendors and Colby community.


PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT : General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, and twisting required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Some travel work may be needed.
