COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST


Office of Admissions & Financial Aid


Full-Time, 12-Month, Exempt, Salaried, Administrative Staff Appointment


Reporting to the Director of Outreach and Recruitment, the Communications Specialist works in the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, in close collaboration with the Office of Communications, to create compelling written and visual content for multiple constituencies. The Communications Specialist is responsible for writing and editing letters, emails, print materials, and web copy, producing short videos, creating promotional materials, helping to implement strategic communications plans, and providing data-driven recommendations for communications strategies. The successful candidate will show an extraordinary degree of self-motivation, a natural tendency toward collaboration, and a high level of respect for the kind of learning that happens at liberal arts institutions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write and edit letters, emails, website copy, speeches, publications, and other promotional materials


Coordinate the production of several short videos, including storyboards, shooting photography, recording audio, video editing, final production, and exporting and posting to the web


Collaborate with the Office of Communications to create print materials for prospective students, college counselors, and other admissions audiences


Contribute to the implementation of the admissions communications plan, utilizing different media and ensuring timely delivery


Analyze data from several sources and provide recommendations for communications strategies


Travel to high schools and community-based organizations


Perform additional duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required


Superior written and verbal communication skills


Experience shooting and editing video


Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere, highly preferred


Strong, self-motivated work ethic and a competitive spirit


Highly organized, attentive to detail, technically proficient, and dedicated to the office and the College


Proven ability to work with a wide variety of people


High energy, creative initiative, flexibility, and a sense of humor are essential


Talent and confidence to exercise discretion while working independently, as well as the commitment to working as part of a team, are expected


Flexibility in working some nights and weekends is essential


A few weeks of travel are required; A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel by air are required at the time of hiring and throughout the term of employment


KEY RELATIONSHIPS: This position has significant interaction with students, faculty, staff, the public, and community.


PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT :
Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary and lifting up to 25+ pounds. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
