Housekeeping Aide job - Inland Hospital - Waterville, ME

  • SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTION

    Cleans and sanitizes rooms and furnishings is assigned work areas following established policies and procedures, to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the hospital. (The work schedule areas will change periodically)


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Utilizes standard methods of cleaning to clean occupied patient rooms or other areas as assigned.

  • Assists in terminal cleaning procedures and prepares patient rooms for new occupant or concurrent cleaning procedures of rooms with long term patients.

  • Follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.

  • Spot cleans walls, windows, and doors in areas of responsibility or other assigned areas.

  • Notifies supervisor or housekeeping manager when supplies are low, mechanical failures, or negative conditions that are observed in assigned areas.

  • Uses body substance isolation techniques to remove trash containers, both regular and contaminated. Removes the same from the hospital to designated areas.

  • Projects a positive image of housekeeping to all areas of the hospital

  • Participates in all hospital sponsored education programs and takes part in all external and internal disaster drills.

  • Seeks ways to improve good inter-departmental relations

  • Adheres to safety practices in utilizing chemicals

  • Cleans and stores equipment used in performance of duties

  • Constantly seeks out ways to improve team concept in the Housekeeping department

  • Distributes linen using standard procedures as needed

  • Answers all housekeeping pages with cheerful enthusiasm

  • Complies with Inland Hospital Hand Hygiene Standards.

  • Adheres to Inland Hospital Standards of Behavior.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • PHYSICAL CRITERIA/EFFORT


    Exposure to foul smells, hazardous chemicals and other toxic substances. Constant exposure to dust, water, and occupied patient care areas.


    SAFETY


    1. Maintain a safe environment which includes knowing and understanding hospital and departmental policies and procedures.


    2. Report and directly address identified environmental hazards when appropriate.


    3. Report and directly address violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.


    OCCUPATIONAL RISKS


    Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment and falls due to slippery floors. Improper body mechanics could result in personal injury. Failure to follow proper safety precautions in the use of chemicals could result in spread of infections to other areas of the hospital.


    PROBABILITY AND CONSEQUENCES OF ERRORS


    Failure to clean area of responsibility properly could result in spread of infections to other areas of the hospital


    NUMBERS SUPERVISED


    This is a non-supervisory position


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB


    Willingness to work in a hospital environment. Subject to the physical environment elements of the job.


    EDUCATION


    High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must have a basic written and oral knowledge of the English language.


    EXPERIENCE


    Housekeeping experience helpful, however, on the job training is available
