Technical Services Librarian - Peking University School of Transnational Law - China, ME

The Law Library of Peking University School of Transnational Law seeks a highly enthusiastic, well-organized, detail-oriented colleague for the position of Technical Services Librarian. The successful candidate for this newly created full-time position will be responsible for working in each of the functional areas of technical services as needed. This position reports directly to the Director, Law Library/Associate Dean for Information Services. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Following is a description of the duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by the Technical Services Librarian:

Cataloging:
Classification, copy cataloging and original cataloging of materials in all formats in English and Mandarin Chinese in accordance with established principles of RDA and AACR2

Standardizes electronic resource records from vendors and inputs them into the online catalog

Physically processes library materials as needed

Participates in collection assessment and material weeding


Serials:
Creates serials/holdings records on the integrated library system. Checks in and routes serials. Updates holdings records as needed.

Assists staff in filing updates to materials as they are received. Resolves holdings issues; claims late materials.


Acquisitions:
Orders materials in all formats. Creates brief bibliographic and order records in the integrated library system

Verifies receipt of material, claims invoiced material as needed, checks monograph orders and serial subscriptions against source and order records

Creates accurate records of payment and ownership

Monitors the materials budget, processes payments, and reconciles invoices

Produces periodic statistical and financial reports


Miscellaneous Duties:
Staffs Circulation Desk on a regular basis; supervises student workers at the Circulation Desk

Performs special projects both self-initiated and as assigned by the Library Director

Creates detailed written instructions describing how specific tasks are performed


Master of Library Science or equivalent degree or experience

Experience classifying and cataloging complex materials; experience with Library of Congress classification, and cataloging standards such as RDA, AACR2, and MARC21

Experience with integrated library systems

Demonstrated aptitude for detail oriented work; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines; and demonstrated experience handling multiple priorities and/or projects

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Mandarin Chinese

Willingness to learn new processes and procedures; ability to take direction as well as provide direction to others; flexible and positive attitude
