SUMMIT INTERNAL POSTING ONLY
The GIS Field Technician is in charge of GPS data collection for the purposes of mapping gas systems; including but not limited to main lines, meters, services lines, regulation stations and pipelines markers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field mapping using GPS equipment
Collecting data
Data processing
Uploading data from the GPS equipment to a laptop
Exporting data files to be imported and edited using ArcGIS software
Updating all GPS software
Maintaining GPS equipment
Follow good health and safety principles, practices and maintain a business-like appearance including wearing company provided clothing is essential to providing the proper company image
Passing required field evaluations and tests for continuing education (OQ)
Other duties as assigned by Manager, GIS
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
High School degree or equivalent
Some college preferred
1-2 years of experience in GPS data collection required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Proficient in the use of Microsoft office tools
Software problem solving skills
Ability to read drawing sheets and maps
Desire to resolve common or irregular problems
Determine line location regardless of mechanical failures
Ability to locate gas lines
Excellent organizational and planning skills required with demonstrated quality and thoroughness on each assignment
Exhibits high level of attention to detail in all facets of the work
Knowledge of natural gas systems desirable WORK ENVIRONMENT
Fast-paced, changing environment
Shop and field, indoor and outdoor environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, inclement weather conditions; work or inspect in confined spaces
Heavy driving on a regular basis
