A. JOB PURPOSE:
The position is primarily responsible for obtaining patient demographics while creating the patients account. Pre-admits utilizing phone calls and physicians’ offices. Answers switchboard and directs ambulance calls to the appropriate area/extension. Works independently with all departments in the hospital.
B. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Job Functions):
- Obtains all pertinent patient information, including signatures for consent for treatment, for the creation and completion of a patient’s account.
- Ensures that all patients are designated to the proper stay type, service, accommodation and service codes.
- Enters all pertinent patient data and insurance information into the computer accurately, following our QA guidelines.
- Utilizes other facilities to ensure seamless registration.
- Completes requisitions and ED forms as needed.
- Ensures that daily census is created with accuracy.
- Pre-admits clinics, surgery, ED, X-ray, ultrasounds, laboratory, mammography and respiratory, completely and accurately.
- Answer and direct ambulance calls accurately.
- Answers incoming switchboard calls courteously within 11 seconds (3 rings) and directs accurately to appropriate department or person via extension, beeper or overhead pager.
- Utilizes professional and courteous phone skills at all times.
- Performs job within allotted time frames, using safe behavior and utilization of appropriate resources.
- Utilizes continuing education, seminars, professional publications and hospital in services to remain current in profession.
- Understands and follows individual, department and hospital responsibilities to meet corporate compliance obligations.
- Maintains hospital cash box, and Gift Nook items, flowers and misc. other monies accurately.
- Acts as a liaison to all departments and personnel via the registration department.
- Participates in annual Inservice education.
- Maintain a safe environment which includes knowing and understanding hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Report and directly address identified environmental hazards when appropriate.
- Report and directly address violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
- Other duties as requested by Manager.
C. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School diploma, or equivalent. Post-secondary preferred. Prior customer service skills necessary.
Experience: One year in a healthcare setting preferred; insurance knowledge, computer skills, switchboard, or multi-phone system skills preferred.
Training: Job specific.
Licensure: None required.
