Steel Fabrication Estimating Associate

• ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


• Prepare pricing estimates on new steel fabrication projects and change orders on existing contracts


• Read and understand job bid instructions and detailed specifications


• Prepare a “take off” of materials included in the job, estimate all necessary labor, buyout items and equipment considerations


• Exercise good judgment and experience in working with purchasing, production, equipment and transportation costs to arrive at full cost estimate with appropriate profit margins to achieve Company’s goals


• Work directly with Estimating Manager to understand size and scope of projects and applicable project deadlines

• DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


• Experience, Education & Training:


• High school diploma, or equivalent, with structural drawing or drafting course work


• Vocation or other secondary education program


• Five years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projects – or – five years of hands on fabrication and/or paint experience

• Specialized Knowledge & Skills:


• Ability to read and interpret technical documents & drawings


• Working knowledge of AWS and AISC standards and codes


• Strong verbal and written communication skills


• Knowledge of terminology customarily used in construction and estimating software


• Strong math and geometry skills


• Ability to think critically and logically applying mathematical concepts to problem solve and/or troubleshoot areas of concern


• Ability to think conceptually


• Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting stringent deadlines


• Must possess strong desire for precision and complete accuracy

• Type Equipment Used:


• Microsoft software applications including MS Windows 7, MS Office 2010 Excel, Word and Outlook


• Estimating Software systems


• Personal computer, copy and fax machine

• Work Environment/Physical Demands:


• Work is performed in an indoor office environment


• Position requires long durations committed to independent reading and computation


• Strong concentration skills necessary

Required experience:

•  Five years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projec: 5 years

Required education:

• High school or equivalent
