RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Psychology Department
Part-Time, 9-Month, Exempt, Benefited, Administrative Staff Appointment
The Memory and Language Lab in the Psychology Department at Colby College is hiring a part-time research assistant with benefits. The assistant will support the research ongoing in the lab, from data collection and management to scheduling and coordinating research sessions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in daily operation of the research lab
- Assist in training and supervision of student research assistants
- Maintenance of lab website
- Facilitate lab management, including maintenance and ordering of supplies
- Recruiting participants, scheduling testing sessions, and maintain participant database
- Holding testing and recruitment sessions on and off-site
- Administration of psychological assessment protocols
- Coordinating and managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols
- Collecting, scoring, coding, and analyzing data
- Compiling and assisting with the preparation of documents (e.g., posters, presentations)
- Literature searches and manuscript support
- Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related fields required
- Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative style
- Strong work ethic and willingness to help
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited supervision
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a willingness to travel locally
- Experience conducting research with human populations preferred
- Ability to work in PC and Mac platforms preferred
- Programming skills preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, SPSS, WordPress and preferred
- Familiarity with APA-style preferred
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
This position has significant interaction with supervisors, students, faculty and staff, as well as other constituents.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT :
General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, and twisting may be required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
