Voc Serv-Employment Spec III job - Maine Medical Center - Maine Medical Center - Augusta, ME





Summary of Position Description

This is professional work in the area of vocational assessment. This position requires the ability to engage participants in a semi-structured interview using assessments/ questionnaires in the areas of: work readiness, overview of physical and mental health, substance use, legal history, and career choice. This position may also conduct group computer lab sessions. Training is provided on the assessments/ questionnaires. The candidate must be proficient in writing reports, achieving benchmarks, and working independently. Supervision will be provided by Project Coordinators. This position requires knowledge and ease with computers and related technology. Position requires typing and navigating an electronic participant record. Knowledge and awareness of the challenges faced by individuals on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and bilingual ability is a plus.


Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required


  • Requires analytical ability necessary to determine community resources available to assist in training and placement of persons with disabilities for work in the private and public sectors.

  • Requires interpersonal skills necessary to persuade various employers to participate in training and employment programs for persons with disabilities. Must coordinate needs of individual employers with available community resources.

  • Requires a professional level of knowledge in vocational counseling with individuals with disabilities, including youth and people with developmental disabilities and/or psychiatric disabilities. Must be able to evaluate employment capabilities of program participants at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in social services or related fields.

  • Requires six to twelve months of progressive experience working with persons with disabilities necessary to learn community resources relating to the potential employment of persons with disabilities and to determine potential employers for such persons.
