China: Program Officer – Develop the GLOBAL SMALL HYDRO POWER REPORT

General description: The position is tasked with the compilation of the GLOBAL SMALL HYDRO POWER REPORT, through a process of data collection, analysis, organization, editing and printing. This task will be performed by the whole team of the Multilateral Development Division. The staff must be able to use initiative and creative thinking in seeking and analyzing data from the target countries. It requires relevant knowledge of energy, environment and social issues and preferably an editing background.
An excellent grasp of the English language (both spoken and written) and good writing skills are essential for communication and editing. Also, the staff will assist with the other work of the divisions as necessary.

Tasks:
• Coordinate services for the Network members, and develop new membership links.
• Collect data and information mainly regarding small hydro power (SHP) from target countries with the help of the member organizations.
• Establish and maintain the databases of relevant SHP statistics.
• Translation and editing of the GLOBAL SMALL HYDRO POWER REPORT.
• Assist the publication of the IN-SHP newsletter and relevant magazines.

Qualifications:
• Professional experience from working with hydro power development institutes, public utilities and governments in developing countries.
• Academic degree in energy, environment or engineering.

Required skills:
• Knowledge of renewable energy sector.
• Prior experience of working in an international organization, preferably in the field of environmental issues / social development and poverty issues / international aid.
• Background as a journalist or an editor is desirable.
• Ability to work autonomously and creatively.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
