Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and development of consumer products from initial concept to on-going product support


• Sketch concepts for conceptual brainstorming as well as for presentation


• Create visual and functional prototypes for research and internal review


• Challenge assumptions and think innovatively to solve complex problems creatively


• Collaborate with Engineering and Product Marketing leaders in the US to innovate, design and implement simple and elegant design solutions


• Manage the day to day activities of China engineers as well as collaborate worldwide

Functional Skills/Knowledge

• Inspirational leadership qualities, collaborative work ethic. Demonstrated experience as a leader of cross-functional teams in a matrix organization environment.


• Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment


• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or guidance


• Proven ability to drive innovation in the engineering conceptualization stages by pushing technology limits while balancing feasibility criteria such as manufacturability, cost, technology risk, implementation schedule.


• A broad view and understanding of the product development process, and effective experience leading multi-disciplined team efforts in the evolution of products from concept through testing, verification and approval


• A solid understanding of manufacturing methods and materials, project planning, risk management (i.e. DFMEA) and other design controls


• Solid analytical skills with a strong attention to detail


• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) along with good sound interpersonal skills


• 5+ years’ experience with ProE or Solidworks

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in an Engineering role involving the design and development of complex integrated assemblies and or engineering systems.


• Previous industry experience working for a vacuum cleaner company or a consultant company in the consumer appliance/goods space is highly desirable.


• Previous experience managing staff and/or building a team is needed


• BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)


• Previous exposure to China manufacturing environment


• Experience with working is China is a must and previous living in China is a big plus


• All applicants will be expected to have a portfolio of work, including sketch/work books demonstrating creative, problem-solving ability.
