English Teacher - Shanghai - Sep 2016



Summary of the School

I am currently representing an International School based in Shanghai. The school are looking for an English teacher to start in September 2016.


Over the past four years, the school has grown from 88 students to 460 students, with further expansion taking place to hopefully take the school to 600 students. The school follow the UK curriculum, with students taking GCSE and A Level examinations. Students from the school, often go on to attend prestigious Universities around the world.


The school was set up to offer the British curriculum to local Chinese students due to the difficulty Chinese students were having when transitioning to an Anglophone University. The school has brilliant facilities and is located in a vibrant part of Shanghai, close to subway, giving it easy access to all parts of the City.


The school are looking for an English teacher to start in September 2016. You will be teaching English literature and English language to Key stage 3, GCSE and A level students. The majority of students are Chinese nationals looking for a British Education. The role will therefore have an element of ESL attached to it.


Job Description


Although the job description i not exhaustive, the subject teachers will be responsible for the following:
*Become familiar with the programs and courses of study used at the school to ensure the teaching quality.
*Assigning homework, periodic tests and providing clear and actionable feedback in a timely manner.
*Preparing school report twice each term once at the mid term and another at the end of the term. School report preparation includes students individual test and exam scores or grades with teachers comments on students general performance, effort level, strengths and areas for concern.
*Meeting with parents to discuss students progress . Those meeting are likely to be held after school hours.
*Promoting and adhering to school policies such as uniform, classroom rules and other disciplinary policies.
*Recording attendance at lessons and finding ways to investigate absence, report prolonged or regular absence to class supervisors.
*Participating and helping to organise extra curricular activities.
*Being observed by the Academic Director, subject coordinator and designated personnel for evaluation purposes and to get support, encouragement and feedback for teaching.
*Providing useful suggestions to students regarding their University entry requirements and write recommendation letters when required.


Remuneration Package


For successful candidates, the school will provide competitive remuneration package, which include:
*Starting salary which ranges from £1800 – £2400
*Completion bonus for a two year contract, which is equivalent to one month salary
*Annual reimbursement for round airfare economy class between your home country residence and Shanghai
*Medical Insurance
*Paid mandatory health check and all visa extension fees
*Accommodation is paid for by the school
Person Specifications
*Hold a valid degree in a relevant subject area and can demonstrate expertise in your specialist area
*All candidates must have a post graduate or degree level teaching qualification (PGCE, B.Ed or International equivalent)
*Having the experience of offering well recognised international program (IB, A Level etc)
*Experience at A Level is preferred
