Academic Assistant/Program Leader - YMCA of San Francisco - San Francisco, CA

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Site Manager, the Academic Assistant/Program Leader will assist mainly with the implementation of academic support and credit recovery but will also contribute to enrichment, and recreational activities for Balboa’s ExCEL after school program. This position is responsible for helping to maintain a safe and clean After School Program site; ensuring a high level of program quality that works to establish a positive relationship with all program participants and their families. The Academic Assistant/Program Leader will provide a positive role model to youth & teens within the philosophy of the YMCA standards and expectations with emphasis on Character Counts. This will be done under the direction of the Site Manager.

Skills and Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Age: 21

Education: College

Related Experience: 2 yrs working with Teens

Specialized Skills: Strong knowledge of High School

level Math and English.

Preferred:

Availability: M-F, 15-20 hours a week

Language Skills: Bi-lingual (Spanish/Chinese)

Licenses & Certifications: First Aid/CPR

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Supervise high school aged youth as well as student volunteers and paid youth assistants, with first priority in their safety, at all times following risk management policies

2. Participate and encourage positive participation of all students in daily activities and events

3. Lead organized learning activities in enrichment and recreation to help students further develop and strengthen their academic, physical, and social skills.

4. Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, teachers, and school staff.

5. Assist with program data entry and daily sign-in and out procedures.

6. Provide academic support to students after school. Subjects include Math (Intermediate/Advanced Algebra, Geometry, & Statistics), Science (Physics & Chemistry), and Literature (English Composition) work.

7. Implement discipline techniques and classroom management.

8. Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and program equipment.

9. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

10. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.

11. Demonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.

12. Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth.

13. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
