English as an Additional Language Teacher - China - August 2016


This international school in Shanghai is looking for a EAL Primary Teacher to join them at the start of the 2016/17 academic year. Applicants should have a BA Degree in Education or PGCE (or equivalent) plus at least 2 years of relevant post qualification experience. They are looking for passionate and committed teachers to join the school. A teacher shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require under the direction of the Principal.


Teaching: Planning and preparing courses and lessons. Teaching pupils assigned to them according to their educational needs, including the setting and grading of work to be carried out by the pupils in the school. Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils. On occasions, to provide cover for teachers who are indisposed. Acting as a support teacher in other classes for about 2 hours a week (when the teacher’s class is having Chinese lessons). Providing reports, oral and written assessments on a regular basis, and references as and when required.


Other activities: Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils assigned. Attending to the personal and social needs of pupils. Communicating with parents outside school hours as and when necessary. Communicating with persons or bodies outside the school if necessary. Attending departmental meetings and other meetings arranged for the purposes described above.


Training and development: Reviewing the teaching methodology and curricula being adopted as and when required. Participating in training and professional development organized by the Foundation. Educational methods Advising and co-operating with the Co-principals and other teachers in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching programs, methods of teaching and assessment, and pastoral arrangements; respecting decisions jointly made.


Discipline, health and safety Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorized to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorized school activities elsewhere.


Public examinations: Preparing pupils for public examinations and assessments leading to such examinations. Invigilating and supervising pupils during examination periods.


Administration: To take part, if required, in the review, development and management of activities related to the curriculum. Attending assemblies, registering the attendance of pupils and supervising pupils, whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after school sessions (includes supervising of pupils during breaks, and at lunch as laid down on the duty roster.)


Job Requirements: A fluent English speaker that has obtained a Bachelor Degree and teaching certificate or license, with recognized qualification in primary education, child development or other related fields. Have a minimum of 2 years full-time teaching experience in a school setting.


An individual who is able to support and promote the school’s value, has passion for teaching students, is sensitive and responsive to the needs of students and demonstrate commitment to the best interest of the students and teamwork with colleagues. Previous experience of working with a diverse group of young children and/or implementation of inquiry based learning approach is a plus.
