Assistant Professor, East Asian Studies (Premodern Chinese Literature) - The University of Arizona - Tucson, AZ

The University of Arizona’s department of East Asian Studies (EAS) invites applications for a tenure track position in Premodern Chinese Literature at the Assistant professor level. Time period and academic specialization within the field of Premodern Chinese literature is open.

We encourage a candidate whose research reflects the breadth and depth of Chinese literature, who can promote the relevance of Premodern Chinese literature to China and the world today.

EAS is a vibrant interdisciplinary program. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to emerging programs in World Literatures, Translation Studies, Global Studies, and Digital Humanities, and will be encouraged to collaborate productively across campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities of two courses per semester will be divided between graduate and undergraduate courses, including courses in premodern Chinese literature and literary Chinese, and lower division general education courses, including Chinese Civilization.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research and publication agenda.

Engage in service through committee work and outreach.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in hand by August 2015.

Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in research and an active research agenda.

Candidates must have expertise in teaching premodern Chinese literature at the university level.
